WP 4 : Global development, demography and migration

Research related to global development, demography and migration will examine development prospects for low- and middle-income regions of the world having regard to demographic trends and the changing age structure of populations around the world. Facing an ageing Europe, an African continent with low incomes and expanding demography will clearly place migration as a central issue to be dealt with in all scenarios for cooperative development. Research in this domain will take into account the different types of migrations that can be observed and their diverse social and economic impacts.

A consortium of researchers from four Emerging Economies (Brasil, China, India and South Africa), whose participation in the project will be coordinated through SOAS, will contribute in major ways to this work package and work package #1, the macro-model of world regions, and will contribute in important ways to work packages #2 and #3.
